On March 5 and 6, 2016, iVolunteer Philippines held a 2-day event to celebrate volunteerism in the Go Volunteer Expo 2016. The 2-day event was filled with activities, talks and performances from various volunteer organizations. Hundreds of volunteers joined the event that was held at the Glorietta Activity Center.
Speakers from various volunteer organizations were invited to inspire and motivate the volunteers who attended the expo. Pocholo “The VoiceMaster” Gonzales capped off the expo as the last speaker. In his talk, “My L.I.F.E. as a Volunteer,” the VoiceMaster shared his experience as a volunteer for over 20 years – as a voice artist, broadcaster, youth advocate and motivational speaker – and how volunteering has helped him become a leader and an inspiration, especially to his fellow youth. He told of his story about how he started in his voice acting career, how he championed a competition on radio among 10,000 auditionees, and how he has volunteered and lent his voice to various projects, all for his love for the craft. Of course, the VoiceMaster had to showcase a few of those character voices, which really entertained the audience. Pocholo also acknowledged the members of his volunteer organization, Voice of the Youth Network, who were present during the expo.
The highlight of Pocholo’s talk was when he called onstage his son, Patrick Gabriel, to also inspire the audience with his own experience as a volunteer. As the country’s youngest broadcaster and motivational speaker, Patrick shared his “volunteerism principles,” wise words from a 10-year-old. “I have been volunteering ever since I was a fetus… and you all do too. We volunteer to walk, we volunteer to talk, I volunteered to stand here and talk to you, and you volunteered to sit there to listen to me. That’s why we have voluntary muscles.” Patrick mesmerized the audience with his wit and genius in the few minutes that he was onstage.
Go Volunteer Expo 2016 was presented in partnership with The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), 2nd Avenue (Solar Entertainment), ABSCBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation and co-presented by Ayala Malls.
